WATCH Records Research Volunteer Position
WATCH uses the practice of court monitoring, and partnership with survivors in community, to defend the human rights of those who have experienced domestic abuse, sexual assault, and sex trafficking. Additionally, WATCH incorporates data collection through court records into our research and advocacy. As part of that process, WATCH volunteers gather data from public court records related to hearings that have previously been observed through the WATCH Project. This information is used to quality check and supplement WATCH’s court observation data and identify trends and patterns in the legal system’s approach to gender-based violence. WATCH, including the project’s records research, plays a vital role in AHR's advocacy to create trauma-responsive legal systems and community-based alternatives for all survivors.
Volunteer Duties
Records Research volunteers will be tasked with searching public court records to verify observer data and collect additional case information, such as information on bail and release, charges, and sentencing, to contribute to WATCH’s data analysis. This may be completed in-person or remotely.
Requirements
Minimum of 8-10 hours per week
We ask for a 6-month commitment
Must have computer/laptop or other technology to complete records research.
