In June 2008, on the campus of Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., more than 20 witnesses testified in public about their experiences during the Liberian civil war. The public hearings were part of the official work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Liberia, whose members traveled from Liberia to St. Paul to hear testimony from Liberians living in the diaspora. The public hearings in St. Paul were coordinated by The Advocates for Human Rights, in partnership with the TRC of Liberia. More than two years later, The Advocates reconnected with several of the witnesses who participated in the St. Paul public hearings to interview them about their experience and to gather information about what impact the process had on them. This project, creating an oral history of the public hearings in St. Paul, was supported by a grant from the Minnesota History Center.
