Maldives - Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination - Death Penalty - May 2025

The Maldives’ last known execution took place in 1954. According to information from a civil society organization based in the Maldives, there are 23 people under sentence of death, three of whom are Bangladeshi foreign nationals.

Amnesty International further reports that as of the end of 2024, some people remained on death row for crimes they committed while under the age of 18, and people with “mental or intellectual disabilities” were on death row in the Maldives.
