On 25 September, The Advocates for Human Rights took the
floor of the Human Rights Council to congratulate the Government of Niger for
its decision to abolish the death penalty. Unfortunately, due to technical
errors and inaccurate translations, the statement that listeners heard on the
floor of the Council and online was not the statement that The Advocates for
Human Rights wished to deliver. Below, in English and in French, are the final
versions of statements as intended.
The Advocates for Human Rights expresses its sincere apologies for any confusion or misunderstanding related to the oral statement of 25 September. We are profoundly sorry for any harm it may have caused. We note in particular that the Nigerien Coalition Against the Death Penalty is in no way responsible for these errors. We request that the Nigerien authorities and the public in Niger kindly please forgive us for this unfortunate situation.
We reiterate our warm words of congratulations for the courageous authorities in Niger who have taken a brave step toward the abolition of the death penalty. We salute and honor them.

Le 25 septembre, l'organisation « The Advocates for Human Rights » a pris la
parole devant le Conseil des droits de l'homme pour féliciter le gouvernement
du Niger d'avoir décidé d'abolir la peine de mort. Malheureusement, en raison
d'erreurs techniques et de traductions inexactes, la déclaration que les
auditeurs ont entendue dans l'hémicycle du Conseil et en ligne n'était pas
celle que « The Advocates for Human Rights » souhaitait prononcer. Vous trouverez ci-dessous, en anglais et
en français, les versions définitives des déclarations telles qu’elles avaient
été prévues.
L’organisation The Advocates for Human Rights présente ses
sincères excuses pour toute confusion ou tout malentendu lié à la déclaration
orale du 25 septembre. Nous sommes
profondément désolés pour tout préjudice que cela a pu causer. Nous tenons à
souligner en particulier que la Coalition nigérienne contre la peine de mort
n’est en aucun cas responsable de ces erreurs. Nous prions les autorités
nigériennes et le public nigérien de bien vouloir nous pardonner cette
situation regrettable.
