AHR Comment Opposing Rule that Puts Unaccompanied Minors at Risk by Creating Dragnet of Information about Sponsors

The Advocates for Human Rights submitted a comment, with support from our pro bono partners in drafting and research, to oppose changes to the data collected on sponsors before unaccompanied minors can be released. Relying on false and misleading stories of "missing" children and purporting to prevent exploitation and harm, the Administration ignores the real risk of trauma from prolonged detention, family separation, and trafficking that the rule will actually create. We know from our expertise working with unaccompanied youth and trafficking survivors that this rule will violate our international obligations and cause human harm, all while ignoring straightforward and realistic ways to protect children, like providing counsel and funding case management rather than enforcement and fear.
