International Justice Program Communications Internship

Location: Remote (with possibility of hybrid)
This internship is designed for undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in using communication skills to advance international justice issues and to promote The Advocates’ International Justice Program work. The International Justice Communications intern will be in charge of writing about our work and relevant current events, including for social media, blog posts, and advocacy materials; help design graphics for our reports; and support staff needs from a communications perspective. The intern will also brainstorm about long-term social media strategies for the International Justice Program.
Primary duties and responsibilities
- Assist with research and writing on issues in human rights law, including the death penalty, gender-based violence, and LGBTIQ+ rights
- Monitor news to identify relevant current events for The Advocates to post about on social media
- Craft social media posts about the International Justice Program’s work and other relevant events or reports, including synthesizing human rights issues for a public audience
- Brainstorm graphics to improve reports at the publishing phase
- Create graphics to improve our social media impact
- Identify and compile photos for our website and social media content
Experience and qualifications
- Proficiency in working with social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.
- Demonstrated interest in human rights
- Proficiency in Canva or other graphic design platform preferred.
As part of your application, please attach a file with an example of a promotional or informational graphic (such as a poster, a social media post, etc.) or a portfolio of work. If you do not have a portfolio, please describe how you would approach a social media campaign addressing LGBTIQ+ human rights in the United States.
