Book Club - How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi

Date: July 16, 2021 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Type: Virtual
Issues: Racial Justice

The events of the past year have taught us that any progress on racial justice requires an ongoing commitment—not only to addressing the issues, but to understanding multiple perspectives. Nondiscrimination is a core principle of human rights and a commitment to racial justice underpins all our programming at The Advocates for Human Rights. This year, our Human Rights Book Club will focus on racial justice in the United States. We have selected four important books for the series and look forward to thought-provoking discussions and new ideas for advocacy. Please join us for one or two meetings, or the full series, to take part in the discussion.

How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi

Ibram X. Kendi pairs personal experiences with broader concepts of history, science, and ethics to help readers understand and identify different forms of racism. Kendi posits that in order to build an equitable society, we must move past simply not being racist and actively choose to be antiracist. Throughout the book, he details the effects of racism in society and how to work against it.
