IDAHOBIT CLE - The Power of Communities: Using the Universal Periodic Review to Fight for LGBTIQ+ Human Rights

Type: CLE
Issues: LGBTIQ+ Rights
This year The Advocates is joining with organizations all over the world to celebrate the Power of Communities and the Interantional Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). IDAHOBIT commemorates the day in which the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder on May 17, 1990.
In our CLE "The Power of Communities: Using the Universal Periodic Review to Fight for LGBTIQ+ Human Rights," The Advocates' managing attorney, Nathan Madson, will be joined by Khaleem Ali (Attorney-at-Law and Caribbean Human Rights Defender) and Lily Ansel (Associate, Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP), who will discuss how they have engaged with the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), strategize how this UN human rights tool can be used to produce change at the local level, and explore how advocates can engage with the UPR of the United States later this fall.
We are applying for 1.0 Elimination of Bias credit.
