Katia Galambos

Katia Galambos supports international advocacy to hold governments accountable for their obligations to recognize and protect human rights. As part of this advocacy, she coordinates with volunteers, interns, community leaders, activists, and other organizations to bring on-the-ground information about human rights issues to the international level. Her core areas of focus at The Advocates include advocacy to combat and prevent gender-based violence, protect the rights of LGBTIQ+ people, and abolish the death penalty globally.
Katia was formerly a Program Associate in the Women's Human Rights Program (2023-2024) and a Program Assistant in the International Justice Program and Women's Human Rights Programs (2021-2022).
International advocacy allows us to see the interconnectedness of diverse peoples' movements to demand recognition of our rights. As articulated in the 1970s by a Queensland-based Aboriginal activist group and attributed to member Lilla Watson: "If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together."
Prior to The Advocates, Katia's work centered on building agri-food systems that are socially, economically, and environmentally responsible.
Katia has a BA in Geography with minors in Education and Sustainability from Vassar College.
