Case Summary: In 2018, Mr. A joined the Front Citoyen Togo Debout (FCTD), a civil society group that promotes democracy in Togo. In April 2020, he and several other members of the group were arrested and falsely accused of planning a coup d'etat. He was interrogated about the group and physically abused, which resulted in his unconsciousness. He was then taken to a cell and detained for 15 months. When he was released, he was forced to sign a form stating that he would not engage in anti-government activities. Around March 2024, he was told that the gendarmes were coming for him and he fled to Ghana. The next month, gendarmes went to his parents' home and asked where Mr. A was hiding. The gendarmes beat his father and placed him under house arrest. His father died from the injuries. Mr. A traveled from Ghana to Brazil, and then to the U.S.
