Next Hearing: Not yet docketed with EOIR (may be treated as affirmative case until then)

Case Summary: Ms. RC is from Michoacan. She has had four family members killed (allegedly by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel) in the last 4 years: her aunt, her brother-in-law, her brother, and her former partner, who was the father of her three daughters. Ms. RC’s former partner worked at the ayuntamiento (the municipality’s government), and there were issues between him and the new mayor. Ms. RC has been threatened by armed men in motorcycles who went to her house and told her and her sister to stop with their respective legal processes regarding the death of their partners. Ms. RC believes that the CJNG cartel and the municipality’s government are colluding with each other. Ms. RC’s sister also was shot when cartel members killed her husband, but she survived.
Theory of the Case: Past threats and fear of future persecution by non-government actors on account of membership in a particular social group (family-based).
Commitment: File I-589, gather evidence and testimony, appearances at Court or USCIS; Work permit (initial and renewals)
Court: Yes
Experience level/case team size recommended: Appropriate for any experience level and team size
Note: This client is technically in removal proceedings, but removal proceedings have not been initiated yet. This is a common occurrence recently. Proceedings may commence at any time, but it is possible the case will proceed in the Asylum Office.
