Case Summary: In April 2024, al-Shabab members robbed the store where Mr. A was working. A few days later, Mr. A was kidnapped by al-Shabab members at his workplace and held for around 20 days. Each day, they would beat and physically abuse him. Mr. A belongs to Somalia's lighter-skinned minority. While he was kidnapped, the al-Shabab members made comments and used slang words referring to his race. Mr. A was eventually released after his health began to deteriorate. After his release, he went to the hospital. While in the hospital, his family reported what happened to the police, but they did nothing to help. After leaving the hospital, Mr. A moved to his uncle's home, but al-Shabab found him there. They accused his uncle of hiding him there. Mr. A escaped with his cousin's assistance, but his uncle was killed. He moved to another city closer to Mogadishu and lived from place to place, but he heard that al-Shabab was continuing to look for him. Mr. A left Somalia in July 2024. If he returns to Somalia, Abukar fears he will be killed by al-Shabab.
