Case Summary: Mr. S is ethnic Lisu and practices Christianity. After the military coup in 2021, he was involved in political protests. In 2022, military members came to Mr. S’ home and physically assaulted him, his father, and his brothers. They threatened to kill them because they suspected them of protesting the coup. After this, his family fled to different areas of the country. Between this time and July 2024 (when he came to the US), Mr. S moved from place to place to avoid contact with the military. If he returns to Burma, Mr. S fears that he will be forced into the military. He does not want to join the military because he does not agree with what they do. If he refuses to join, he says the military will kill him. If he is forced into the military, Mr. S fears that he will be persecuted within the military because of his race and religion.
