Case Summary: Between 2018 and 2023, Ms. RO was in a relationship with a man who was part of the Cartel de Mariano. During their relationship, Ms. RO’s partner physically and emotionally abused she and her child. When she tried to get help from the police, she was told that her case was not credible and that she did not have enough marks on her body for there to be any real harm. After she separated from her partner, he continued to harass her. On one occasion, he broke into her home in the middle of the night and watched her sleep. When she began a relationship with another man, he was killed by members of her ex-partner’s cartel in the retaliation. After this, she decided to flee to the U.S. with her son.
