Case Summary: Mx. DY is genderfluid and uses they/them pronouns. From the age of 5 to 16, they were sexually assaulted multiple times by 3 uncles on their father’s side. In 2023, they were sexually assaulted again by their uncle and a police officer. During the assault, their uncle and the police officer used homophobic language towards them. When they told their father, he refused to believe them. Instead, he told them that whatever happened was deserved and their fault because of their sexual orientation. They tried moving to different cities in Guatemala, but homophobia is terrible throughout the country. When their mother saved up enough money, they came to the U.S. Since arriving, they have been diagnosed with HIV.
