Current Status/status expiry: Haitian Humanitarian Parole through 12/02/2025; The asylum application should be filed before Mr. R’s parole expires
Case Summary: In 2020, Mr. R began working for a branch of the Haitian army that focuses on the environment. He was soon promoted to a position as a bodyguard for the director of this branch of the army. During this time, the director began implementing new measures that some agents disagreed with. Because of this disagreement, these agents wanted to assassinate the director. Mr. R kept his bodyguard role until 2023, when he came to the U.S. In February 2025, Mr. R’s director was assassinated. He heard that the director's bodyguards were being targeted and that he was on a list of people they (former agents who are now working with gang members) are looking for. Because of this, Mr. R fears that he will be harmed or killed if he returns to Haiti.
