Case Summary: Mr. K is ethnic Lisu and practices Christianity. Mr. K left Burma in January 2024 and came to the U.S. in July 2024. After leaving Burma, military officials came to Mr. K’s home and tortured and interrogated his mother about the whereabouts of him and his older brother. The military threatened Mr. K’s mother to force Mr. K and his brother to return to Burma. If Mr. K returns, he fears he will be forced to fight for the military. He says that Christians especially have been targeted by the military, and that the military announced that one member of each Christian household must join the military. Mr. K opposes what the military is doing and has always opposed their beliefs and actions. If Mr. K refuses to join the military, he fears he will be killed.
