Case Summary: Mr. N has been persecuted multiple times for acts perceived as going against Islam. Around age 18, Mr. N was arrested and detained after an elderly man called the police on him for acting against Islam by playing volleyball with girls. Around age 25, Mr. N was beaten unconscious by the police for keeping a pet dog; the police said he was acting against Islam. Mr. N stopped practicing Islam and has converted to Christianity since leaving Iran. Mr. N has also been persecuted for his political beliefs. Once, Mr. N was talking with a friend about the Iranian government and Islam in public when an official dressed as a civilian detained and interrogated him. At age 26, Mr. N fled to Hungary, where he was given temporary status and was denied permanent residence. Mr. N believes he is on an Iranian government watchlist because he posts about violence in Islam and by the government on the application Telegram. Because of this, he fears he will suffer continued persecution if he returns to Iran.
