WATCH Protective Orders Internship

This internship is designed for volunteers who feel passionate about advocating for a trauma-responsive legal system for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking. The intern will work with the WATCH court observation project and will focus on the project’s advocacy related to civil protective orders. WATCH uses court observation and research to identify issues that impact survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking who are requesting orders for protection or harassment restraining orders. This internship will consist of both court observation and research. This internship requires 10+ hours per week.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Conduct searches of public court records and compile document files.
- Review court documents, highlighting issues and summarizing information.
- Attend regular debriefs with staff and other interns about findings.

Identify trends, patterns, and issue spotting.
Experience and qualifications:
- Previous experience with the Minnesota records database is preferred, but not required.
- An understanding of the complexities involved in domestic violence, sexual assault, and other gender-based violence cases.
- Extremely organized, detail-orientated, and able to meet deadlines.
- Must pass background check.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Responsibilities may shift with the needs of the project.
